About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Victor, You raise a good point about your observation in relation to having the students for such a short period of time. So your strategy of offering all of the preference areas in your instructional delivery is a good one because that way are helping each student work in his/her preferred area at least part of the course. Gary
Lisa , Thanks for sharing this success with us. This is exciting to hear because the students were engaged and excited themselves as they assumed roles and responsibility for their learning. Gary
Walter, Right you are about some subjects being a bit dry. Yet, with an exciting instructor that cares about student success learning will occur and students will value the content that is being delivered which is what you are doing with your methods. Keep up the good work. Gary
Ava, Good plan and one I am sure is effective. You are focused on all aspects of the educational environment ranging from student to physical setting. Instructors need to see the big picture in terms of learning opportunities and this approach does just that. Gary
Mindy, I wish you much success in helping this student to overcome his/her fear factor. You are right about drawing upon their experiences so they can use them in the class. This really helps with their self esteem and confidence as well as over coming their fears. Gary
Katherine, Good way to provide support to your students. Using your own experiences as a student is a great way to connect with your students as you know. They know you know what they are going through because you have and are experiencing it. This puts a very human face on the instructional process. Gary
Malcolm, Another good example of how to cope with challenging situations. Your attitude is what is the key here. By staying positive your students will be more focused on learning rather than looking for things to complain about. Gary
Mary, Simple, effective and is a great aid in developing discipline for deadlines. Gary
Mary, Good strategy. In addition, this way the students see the value you place on the contents of the syllabus since you are testing them over the content as well as discussing it in the beginning of the class. Gary
Larry, Good use of the syllabus. This is why it is so important to have a clear and concise one prepared for each class. Gary
