About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kevin, Good points about instructional planning. Variety and change of pace really helps to keep the students engaged throughout the class sessions. Gary
Kim, Yes. What is the value for both the students and the instructor in having clear goals and objectives? Gary
Susana, Great job of showing relevancy and application to what they are learning while helping them to see the rewards of what they are doing. They are helping people that are hurting and are in need. This is a great opportunity for the students to share a bit of themselves through their work. Gary
Regina, The more you can do this the more valuable the course content becomes. The general education courses are required for a reason and the more we can illustrate to our students relevancy and application of content the greater their engagement is going to be. Gary
Olmarys, This development of behavior is very important because this is where they are going to be spending their careers. They need to know how to problem solve and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Gary
Manuel, Little things like those you listed are a great way to show your students how they need to conduct themselves when they are out in the workplace. Social conduct is a critical part of career success as we all know. Gary
Karen, Well said. We are there to help students be successful if they will put forth the required effort. So student centered instruction is a must. Gary
Christine, I bet they come up with such very unusual ways of graphically illustrating the course content. Gary
Kenny, This is so true. It seems that we are being called upon to teach basic academic skills as well as our content areas. Graphic organizers give them some basic ways of gathering and retaining content. Gary
Kenny, It really does help with long term knowledge retention and applications. Gary
