About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Tracy, You will be amazed at how changes of pace, like the puzzle or create a game using the Jeopardy format really gets the students focused and excited about the course. When you are ready to go back to the lecture they will be ready to concentrate on the content due to the variety you offered them. Gary
Susana, Good strategies to follow in helping your students to be successful with the different learning modes. With this approach the students get to work in their different preferences while acquiring the needed skills and knowledge. This results in a win win for everyone. Gary
JOSEPH, This is a great way to make your course content relevant to the students. Even though the content is challenging the application of the knowledge can be done in a way that is enjoyable and engaging. Gary
Judy, I do the same thing. Students as we know need to be reminded and prompted repeatedly when it comes to due dates, etc.. Gary
Jennifer, Good way to show the value of the syllabus. By using it throughout the course you help students to see it as a reference for them. I have found that they answer a lot of their own questions about assignments, due dates, and requirements by going to the syllabus. Gary
Susana, Good way to start a class. You are giving them a chance to learn about you as well as their classmates in a comfortable and supportive environment. This sets the tone for what will happen in the coming class sessions. Gary
Judy, I like your attitude about instructor preparation and delivery. You are right we must be at our best each and every time we step into the classroom or we are not being professional in our dedication to our students. Gary
Jennifer, Student really like real world situations don't they. I think the stories help to make real the content that is being studied in addition to the relevance they bring to information. Gary
Susana, Good ways to present yourself as both a role model for being an instructor as well as a role model for your field. Both forms of modeling help set the standard for the course and the career development of your students. Gary
Pascha, Good point about how to present yourself as a professional as well as coping those "off" days that occur for everyone. Gary
