About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Debra, This is a good point and so important for the students to internalize as they get settled into the course. To know they are valued and will be supported in their learning is critical for early course success. Gary
Troy, What are some specific way you will do this? Gary
Angela, They sure do. These stories help to make the content come alive for them and show relevancy to what they are studying. Gary
Melonie, Glad to hear that you are enjoying working through this course. You are right on target with your strategies and learning supports. Keep up the good work. Gary
Kimberly, You are providing them a continuum of educational learning opportunities as they progress through the course. Knowing what has been covered and then what will be covered helps to give them the big picture. Gary
Kimberly, Good balance to how you are sharing content with your students. Students as you know need change of pace and variety in the delivery format which helps them to reset their minds in terms of learning opportunities. Gary
Jeb, Thank you for sharing this caution with us. We instructors need to make sure that there is value associated with the use of graphic organizers or they will be perceived as a waste of time. Gary
Jeb, This helps to keep the course fresh and the instructor excited about the content. The notes are a great to plan from when you are preparing for the course the next time. Gary
Craig, Great to hear of your success with this method. Teaching general ed courses can be a challenge because many students don't see the value of the content or want to be in the course. When you make the content relevant and the students can make application of it then value starts to be realized. Gary
Ivy Joy, Good way to get feedback from the students and create a plan for yourself. This is going to help other instructors as do their instructional planning. Thanks for sharing this with us. Gary
