About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Allen, This method reinforces what has been and will be taught. It helps to reinforce the students as they progress through the course. Well done. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mary, Good way to help create a professional atmosphere that sets the standard for your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mary, The social development that comes with technical knowledge and skill acquisition is just as important to career success. Good job of providing these opportunities to your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mary, Good point. Be like a sponge and soak up information and strategies from everyone you can. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Gaylene, I use icebreakers in my classes for the same reasons. They really help to get my students settled into the course and ready for what is going to occur in the coming sessions. Plus, we have some fun and laughs as we get to know each other. I am sure this has been your experience as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Beth, I like knowing this information as well. It gives me insight into the student dynamics I have to work with during the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Discussion Comment
Beth, Good reminder for instructor to make a part of their educational development. This where continued instructional development comes from. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Shalanda, Your use of the crossword puzzles is a great idea. Students of all ages like games and challenges as you know. I use them a lot in my classes and my students are like yours in that they miss them when I don't have one for them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Martha, Variety and change of pace really help to keep students engaged. Your use of technology helps to illustrate to students how they can use technology (cell phones)and communicate with their instructor. This is a win win for both the students and you. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, Thank you for the example. It illustrates your point exactly. This is too high a cost in relation to scaring students before they can even get settled into the course. We need to be always conscious of the impression factor on student retention. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
