About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

J., Good professional development plan. These efforts will result in increased growth and skill development as an educator. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mike, Simple question with a simple answer that has powerful outcomes. You are right on with your comments. We need to always remember this as we work with our students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
April, Good strategy and great service for your students. You are helping them to get settled into the class and building on their self confidence so they feel they can be successful. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dellene, Right you are so the mini-lecture format gives you time after sharing content to share a story to reinforce what has just been covered. This will really help with content retention. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Alan, Students like to hear stories about their field that their instructors have experienced. They help to make the content relevant to what they are learning. So keep sharing the stories and showing the students that they have a future if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rose, You are so fortunate being in this field because you have more current events than you can every cover. This I know makes the class very interesting for your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Laura, They certainly are and this is why it is so important to make sure those impressions are positive so you can build on them rather than trying to correct them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mazen, Well said about the value of a syllabus. It is just as you have said a contract of learning for between you and the students. With your addendum you have built in flexibility to make adjustments as needed to keep the class moving forward. Good plan. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Theresa, Good strategy. These student relationships in many cases become life long as they progress through their careers. The more they can get to know and respect each other the more experience they will gain in terms of being able to work with others upon graduation. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Chakita, I agree. The more input you can get from those around you the better your planning will be. Then you can customize your instruction much better for each class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
