About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Jodi, You have a comprehensive approach to your professional development plan. You will and have seen expansion of your expertise each time you teach and this shows how your plan is working. Keep looking for additional ways to be a more effective and efficient instructor and you will enjoy a most rewarding career as an educator. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Martha, I think you are on the right track with you thinking and approach. The more attention we call to appearance and preparation the greater the impact will be even if online. Keep reminding the students to be aware of how they present themselves as professionals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Thomas, Good point for helping students to see the big picture of the content. They need to see how the segments come together and complete the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Gary, I like the way you build on both memory areas. You are going to get increased retention and application of content as a result of this approach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Julia, I think this is a great exercise because it shows students their potential. I know this really motivates them as they seek these jobs and then write about them. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mohammad, A simple truth that all instructors need to remember. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers

Mike, Wow, you have a tremendous amount of time spent in front of students. I have taught for over 30 years and I had never stopped to think how many hours I had in student contact. These kinda of hours show us that we need to always be prepared to teach, excited that we get to and want to improve each time we start a new course. Sounds like you have such an attitude. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Pat, Good for you. I do the same thing, in fact Monday evening I am introducing a new course segment that I have been planning for some time. I teach the same required foundational course over and over throughout the year so I work hard to bring new concepts, activities and content into the course so I stay excited about it. I can't wait to see how the students are going to react to this new way of teaching a core concept. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Pat, It makes a great difference. We need to "sell" the content we are offering. If we are excited about it the students will be to. Plus, it is a lot of fun to teach about something you know and get paid for it as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mike, That form of point deduction is a new one to me. Not surprised because I learn something new everyday about being a teacher and what other educators do in our field. Thanks for the good reminder of how we need to approach the classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
