About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Ernest, Good explanation of motivators. I think one of the challenges and enjoyments of teaching is finding that "what" and then getting it to work for you. This is the foundation of rapport development. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joyce, Good for you. This is what being a role model is about. You are demonstrating the standards you have as an educator as well as a person that represents the field the students are preparing to enter. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Naila, How do you define it for yourself? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Myrthe, Dedication, enthusiasm and passion are three words that can do a lot to help with teaching success. When students see instructors with these three they know they are being taught by a professional that cares about their success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Annette, Simple statements have powerful implications. The more we can support and encourage our students the higher their commitment is going to be to their education. They will "buy in" to the fact that they can be successful and create a future for themselves. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Discussion Comment
Laura, Empowerment is a word that is used often but in many situations not readily applied. Students need to understand what empowerment is and how it can be used to help them achieve the goals they have set for themselves. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Anthony, Well said. A class without respect either by the instructor or the students is going to be a very long one for everybody. With respect and rapport students can settle into the course and feel confident that they can be successful. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carolyn, Right you are. Feeling accepted and supported creates a comfort level that enables the students to focus on being successful in the course. In addition, the students get to develop their human relations skills while encouraging each other. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ashley, I agree. In teaching as you know no two classes are alike. So we get to be creative, have new students and enjoy sharing our content over and over again while getting paid for it. This is a win win situation. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Angela, This is a good strategy to use with your students. These support groups will help to keep the students engaged and focused on what is being taught as well as provide encouragement when needed. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
