About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Crystal, You have a built in connection to your students since you attended the college. I like the way you build on this and get them looking at where they want to go from the beginning of the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joseph, Great approach. This gets the students involved from the very beginning and lets them share the life experiences they are bringing into the class. This starts the development of two way respect from the very beginning. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Barbara, It sure does. They start to realize that they have a field experienced instructor offering them his/her knowledge. This greatly increases the development of respect. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Thanks for sharing this strategy with us. Yes, this format is a lot of fun and really expands the participation of students. I know other instructors will benefit from trying it as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Charles, You have a good blend (stories and humor) to keep students engaged. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, You excitement is catching about your own professional growth as an educator. Thank you for sharing it with us. As a result each class of students is being better served by you because you have chosen to be a life long learner. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kim, A simple concept that is very powerful. We need to always keep this in mind as we approach the classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joel, Good point about the value of bringing examples into the instructional setting. This helps the students to see relevance and application of what they are being asked to learn. This increases their motivation in relation to being successful as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
DeVon, Enthusiasm is catching isn't? When we share it everyone benefits. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
James, Students will drop out no matter what we do but it always makes me sad to lose one. We need to do all we can to support and encourage potential school leavers. Everyone retained is another person moving forward toward their career goals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
