About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Mary, Accountability is build into your approach and I like that. They receive the syllabus, review it and the supplemental materials you provide and then sign they have read and reviewed it. The quiz is the value added part of accountability. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Donna, What a great way to integrate students into a course! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I know this is going to be valuable to many other instructors. It really does burn into the minds of everyone that participates the necessity for trying to find answers as well as knowing when to seek help. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, Based upon these comments and the ones previously it sounds like you have some exciting challenges in order to keep your courses current and reflective of the field. I am sure your efforts give you a lot of satisfaction to know you have been able to target your high tech plus highly creative field in a way that gives your students the needed content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Trinity, Good point and one that is important not only for the students but for we instructors ourselves. Being excited about our field helps us to stay engaged and motivated to share with our students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Anjali, Segmented instruction is critical for learning. The students need to see the steps and learn how each step or segment of content contributes to the completion of the whole. This way they don't become overwhelmed with trying to take in everything at once to the point they become frustrated. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dorothy, Thank you for sharing your student results with us. Yes, it takes work but as you say the results are worth it. Also, once developed you have a sense of comfort knowing that the next time you teach the course you have "good" content and delivery as a part of your instruction. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Talyon, What are some examples of those ways? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Eric, You hit on two key words, application and relevance. Both need to be a part of the instructional process for maximum student engagement to occur. Thanks for bringing them to mind. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Marlene, Well said and a good reminder for all instructors. We need to keep current and fresh in our instruction or we will be doing a dis-service to our students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Eric, What a great compliment to your professional dedication and delivery. Keep up your enthusiasm. Your students are benefiting greatly from your efforts. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
