About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Shawn, Thank you for sharing your own life experiences in relation to being a role model for your students. You are giving them ideas about how they can develop their own behavior and skills to have a successful career in CJ. This is a way to "connect the dots" between the classroom and real life. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jennifer, Good strategy with a high degree of information being received with a low pressure level for the students. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rosa, Good professional development plan. Gary Dr. Gary Meers

Michael, Sharing your own life story helps the students to see the value of the course content they are going to get. You are modeling what they want to become so you are setting the stage for a positive learning situation. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Stelian, You make a good point and one that we need to keep in mind. Even though we have taught the course many times it is the first and hopefully only time the students will be in it. We need to make sure what we do is current, exciting and engaging. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, The more application of new knowledge and tie into relevancy the greater the content retention is going to be. Good comments about the value of using both relevance and application in the teaching process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Shawn, It sure does. What have you found to be effective in helping your students in this area? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
