Ice breakers on the first day of class can be helpful. Also, communicate expectations and policies clearly to set them on a path of success.

Lead your  class by example.

It is important to use as many teaching styles as possible when presenting a topic. 

Practice demonstrations prior to presenting them. 

It's important to share a little bit about me. Cohorts already know each other, and a new instructor might be seen as "the intruder" in the group. Sharing will ease their nerves and create a bond.

First day sets the tone for the rest of the term.
