Hi Sara: Bonus questions or similar methods that assess knowledge, are given to all students, and graded in the same way is great. That's different from extra credit, that just gives points for nothing or in substitution for failed or poor performance of the regular assignments. Regards, Barry

Using pretests as planning tools

Making field trips and guest speakers a part of instruction

Hi Bernard: Sometimes something very simple or basic to the job that a student hears about from a guest speaker or something they see on a good field trip can truly inspire them to do better in class and carry on to the work setting where they become exemplary workers - a manager's dream! Hi Gregory: Peer mentoring is great for basic vs advanced students. More difficult assignments are another way. Trying to move the class along at approximately the pkace and pace is desirable. Getting other students to help is very effective. Regards, Barry

Hi Jeffrey: Some teachers like to reflect on other aspects, such as comments students made, how they feel about the topic, why students behave certain ways. In many cases, nothing will ever change - except the teacher when they read their comments months or years later. There, they'll see the growth. Regards, Barry

Selecting instructional media

Hi Jeffrey: Leraning styles are important. I think all learners have traits of the different styles, some just more highly developed or used. Getting student involved will engage them in the learning process using nearly any media. The student remembers information when they are required to use it, practice it, demonstrate it, present it.
