Hi Neelam, Pre-tests are an excellent method of learning what type of student learner you have. Of course, most institutions use these tools as a method of gauging how much foreknowledge a student has upon entering the course, but they can reveal so much more about a student. Regards, Barry

Hi Marlene: I think the more frequent and current we can keep our students, the better. Electronic gradebooks are great, but I know not all schools have access. I alsways try to offer some encouragement, support, and advice whenever I meet with a student as well. Regards, Barry

Hi Christina: Right. And early on is better thatn later on when help or assistance or even just status can do little to affect a grade. I think more frequent chats, even if informal, are better than some big status report. Most teachers can glance at their (electronic or manual) grade book and let a student know where they stand. Should be done as privately as possible, and sprinkled with encouragement and support. Regards, Barry

Hi Donald: Gosh, no one is expected to spew out their lifetime of knowledge in a moments notice! Sheesh! A journal can be what ever you want it to be. A chronological record; reflections of daily classes; valuale tidbits that "came to you" during the lesson; observations of stuednt behavior and your handling of these, to name just a few. What's helpful is looking over notations later on, whether that's weeks, months, or years because that'll reflect and reveal growth, maturity, and help identify strengths. Also, remember, you're probably following a set curriculum with course objectives and student learning outcomes.… >>>
