Hi Jack: I really like field trips. They can inspire students and in some cases even change the whole perspective a student has about a class. In a sense, it's like they can become really jazzed about the profession in a way they had no idea the profession offered. Sometimes guest speakers can have a similar effect, and knowlegeable professionals can incite enthusiasm into a topic or work setting. Regards, Barry
Hi Ziaul: Hopefully, suucess in life will be the fortune of every derving individual. How we can contribute to that is by being honest and sincere ambassadors of thier learning, taking accountability for outcomes, and offering assistance when we determine a student needs a little extra nudging. Regards, Barry
Hi Leslie: Great!. Especially in career schools, but in any enrironment, when we are able to convey what we've gained from work, experience, education, training, and life, we can be proud that wee've helpd those students to be be just a little better in their lives and future employment. Regards, Barry
Hi Elizabeth: If your institution allows, you can incorporate oral assessments as part of your grade. If students are underchallenged by traditional testing models, try new ones that are more "on the spot". Regards, Barry
Hi Elizabeth: I think you have perfectly described both the rewards of teaching, and the frustration we all feel with that type of student who tends to drag their feet and not really do the amount of work they need to for their own success. Regards, Barry
Hi Mak: In fact, these types of learning tools may even help us see what kind of student learning style they have, making for more effective lesson planning. Regards, Barry
Hi Lisa: And, if we are consistently disorganized, that may convey the opposite of what you describe. Regards, Barry
Hi Lisa: Excellent! What some newer instructors may not realize is that we can make improvements in both what worked, and what didn't. Regards, Barry
Hi Lisa: Here again, in your example, we see a good example of how a variety of approaches may best serve the students in that we all learn in different ways. Regards, Barry
Hi Lisa: Many institutions don't allow the use of this sort of thing due to the potential that it may allow a student to slip by a course without demonstrating a good working knowledge of the key concepts. Regards, Barry
