Hi John: Simulation testing is very common in many health realted fields of study. It has shown to be an effective method of learning and reinforcing the teaching concepts expected of students. Pros include involvement, hands on, practical application, better retention. Cons include more time to prepare simulation set-up, possible dominance by stronger students, and difficulty arriving at an objective grading strategy for this type of assessment. Hi Rebecca: I'm glad you've found enjoyment in setting the criteria for grading. For some, it's a real chore. For me the goal is to try to provide as much variety in determining waht constitutes the most weight (importance) and will reflect the learning that occured. Rubrics are great, as they tend to eliminate subjectivity, plus, everyone knows how they will graded from the get go. Regards, Barry

Hi William: This is a terrific example and conjures up thoghts about how this "instant feedback" process could be adapted to classroom lectures and activities. I already use a "Teach, ask a question to a non-vol;unteer student, calify, then go on with the lesson". This check for understanding works but takes time. Maybe someone's dissertation could center on "Bridging Clinical Proficiency and Classroom Instyruction"? Regards, Barry
