About me

Activity

Eddy, I love field trips and good guest speakers. For the field trips, students get unique exposure to aspects of their career choice that is unlike anything they could ever get in the classroom or lab setting. These are usually meaningful and memorable, and can be a motivator for better classroom study habits too. Barry Westling
Eddy, For me, student centered means I am willing to alter my preplanned curriculm or daily objectives in order to meet the individual needs my students may need. It's like customizing the class to fit the students. Not always easy to to but a great goal to shoot for. Barry Westling
Dawn, It sounds good. And if it works for you, that's great. My thought is we want to measure learning fairly and accurately. That's what any grading system should try to achieve. Barry Westling
Robert, Sounds great. This is frequent and students can make adjustments in their study plans as needed. Barry Westling
Daniel, I think more involvement the student has in their learning, the more memorable will be the experiences and retention of key information will be more likely. Barry Westling
Daniel, There is a lot out there, so instructors really have to be selective. There's satisfactory, good, and perfect...for the current class at this time, for this time, and these students. Perhaps it will vary the next time. Meeting cuurent needs is the objective. Barry Westling
Daniel, I agree. Enthusiastic and passionate instructors make classes more interesting and contribute to a positive tone that make students perk up and want to participate. Barry Westling
Daniel, If students leave interested in lifelong learning, we will have achieved something great. Your other goals are good as well. Barry Westling
Salah, We can be effective role models for students with good pre-class preparation. Barry Westling
Anthony, Yes, that's the most important objective for a grading system: acurate and fair maeasurement of learning. This is where busy work should be focused on independent learning, and not just filling time. Also, using a grading rubric can help make sure grading is as as objective as possible. Barry Westling
