David, Either way, informing students helps them know where they stand. And I think any time an instructor can communicate personally with their students, that adds trust (and perhaps respect) among the students towards their instructor. Barry Westling
David, Great! Perfect use for the pretest, and the resultant outcomes. Barry Westling
Kathryn, Simple PPT's are best. Easy to construct and if one uses bullet points, can simply guide the instructor through a discussion, rather than providing all of the information on the slide. Embedding hyperlinks or very short videos's into your slides also make PPT's come alive. Barry Westling
David, Most instructors are involved with some or all lessons pertaining to work, Besides skills and knowledge, also possessing the behaviors, attitudes and professionalism pertinent to a career area are just as impotant, as are critical thinking skills. Barry Westling
John, Every journal (and method) is unique to the instructor. For me, years ago I would just slip notes between pages of the curricuulm binder. With technology, my notes are now electronic and matched to the topic. Keeping it simple to start, a good way to begin may be a spiral bound binder to jot notes to yourself. Not high tech but effective. Barry Westling
Kathryn, For me, I know class runs smoother when I feel and am prepared, materials organized, and all resouces ready for theinstructional period. When I am on task, my students feel the benefits when they sense I'm relaxed, approachable, and confident in the lesson material. Barry Westling
Tracy, Yep, like a journey, we can provide both the map and the resources to equip students to reach their destination. This won't happen without time, effort, and planning for effective results. Barry Westling
Kathryn, Yes, adapting our curriculum to meet student abilities is at the core of student centered instruction. Barry Westling
Richard, I think whenever an instructor individualizes the students academic needs, there will be improved student learning outcomes. Barry Westling
Kathryn, Yes, and adult learners are savvy consumers who want (and deserve) current, up to date information about their status in order to make decisions regarding improvement or areas that may need more attention. Barry Westling
