Lifelong learning, or at least the inspiration to be continuously active with staying involved with current trends and practices is the best advice and training we can give our students, as learning doesn't stop in the classroom or lab. Perhaps not totally true, but the message is we should learn from our mistakes (of course it's implied we should learn from them and avoid making the same mistakes again). And a teaching journal can assist tracking what's working and what may need improvement, especially when viewed over time. Barry Westling
David , I agree that respect is often a byproduct of preparedness. I would also say that is not my motivation, although it is nice when it occurs. I feel my job is prepare well, teach well, and do all I can to help my students succeed. If they respect that, then great. However, not all do, and that's OK too. Barry Westling

Tiffany, Serious instructors, can lead to serious students. Of course by serious I don't mean stiif or unfriendly. By no means. I mean ready, prepared, and organized so that students recognize time, effort and planning has gone into each lesson. We set the example. Barry Westling
