Tessie, Good PPT's convey ideas and provide information that's memorable. Too much information is not the answer, as you say. The instructor is the expert, and combining that knowledge with PPT is a great mix. Barry Westling
Wendy, For good or bad, students need to feel like their being fully engaged, which may involve some upbeat theatrics from time to time. Barry Westling
Charlene, Yeah, it's like talking is not teaching. And if students aren't learning, perhaps an adjustment in instruction is needed. Barry Westling
Tessie, Like a meal, each lesson has to be fresh and nourishing. Barry Westling
Wendy, What we convey often occurs through non-verbal cues, and students are quick to detect when less than well prepared instruction is present. Barry Westling
Anthony, Yes, and of course it's a lot easier to be enthusiastic and upbeat when preparation has preceded a class session. Barry Westling
Alwyn, Mistakes and confusion are likely top be present when a less than fully prepared instructor attempts to wing it. Students will not tolerate that for long. Barry Westling
Elena, Yes, students often have varying ideas (not always accurate) about what a career area or profession has to offer. Barry Westling
Christine, Right, and most educators and many institutions would tend to agree with that sentiment. Barry Westling
Tena, Great! Pretesting is a tool, and for instructors that use it, they find it helpful for many of the reasons you cite. I don't always pretest for every class. When I need to have a baseline knowledge of what students prior knowledge is, that's my cue to consider doing a brief pretest to assess. Barry Westling
