Hi Kimberly: A theme I like to promote too is the benefit of the opportunity for the student and instructor to have some 1-on-1 time. Relationship building. It's a dividend that'll pay off profits in later days for sure! Regards, Barry
Hi Kimberly: Back up planning should be just as much a part of the lesson plan as the main thing planned. As you stae, it doesn't have to take a lot, but some preparation is needed. Regards, Barry
Hi James: Keeping students interested can be a chore on some days. Bringing these real life persons and their knowledge adds flavor to an otherwise bland meal. Regards, Barry
Hi Christine: Good. Another idea might be for you to propose "what would you do if you had missing ingredients?". This might get the students to think outside the receipe box and could lead to some interesting discussions. All it would take is very little planning on your part. Regards, Barry
Hi Anthony: I think any time we can make the opportunity to take time and relate to the student on a 1-on-1 basis is going to build a better class environment. Sharing grades is a great tool to convey your willingness to help the student do well, make improvements, and perhaps achieve a better grade. The student will appreciate your interest and feel you have their success prioritized. Regards, Barry
Hi Anthony: Yes, and also planning for a more effective instructional lesson. We may one thing in mind and the pretest indicates we're going to have spend more time in certain areas. What a great planning tool customized to that individual class! Regards, Barry
Hi Jason: Q and A is great. It stimulates thought and provides a forum to discuss a little or a lot depending on the emphasis needed. Regards, Barry
Hi James: These techniques are okay. We always have to ask ouselves if the media we're using isb the best for the students. Having something prepared for "one of those days" that can pulled off the shelf and put into action with little effort can pay off big dividends in the eyes of the student - i.e. seamless instruction. Regards, Barry
Hi Christine: Sure. We want to see improvement, therefore the student has to know where there is room for improvement and how to achieve it. THis is a great opportunity to discuss grades 1-on-1, which can improve the relationship building process. Regards, Barry
Hi Anthony: I think letting students see that as instructors, we are human and capable of making mistakes can be an attribute to minimizing potential barriers students may have to an instructor. Regards, Barry
