Activity

Building social presence, in an online classroom, will help students feel that the instructor is reach, approachable, supportive and engaged in their learning. It will avoid disconnection with students and promote active engagement, helping students feel suppported throughout the course.

To develop am effective time management strategy is to utilize technology features, such as email automatic responses to free from having to reply, especially if emails are from students asking if assignment submissions have been received.

I have learned that as much as the student's have good intentions with setting aside time for viewing/listening to online lectures, but it may not awlays happen. Breaking lectures into manageable chuncks at a time sounds achievable and may even more memorable. I will create several shorter powerpoint videos by topics.

It is not enough to know the skilled trade through learned sequential processes and memorization, but understanding will give the student a deeper knowledge that will assist with problem-solving during real-life scenarios.  I will be more aware why and where of "connections points" to help students to improve the learning process.

It is not important to learn trades, but without contextual learning, students will not be able to apply the learned knowledge to real world scenarios. One way to apply trade skills can be achieved through virtual simulation.

It is important for the Instructor to model class presentations and make eye contact with the students during lectures or demonstrations.

I have learned to create an efficient record-keeping system of conversations with students regarding counseling and communication that pertain to assignments, discussion forums, and messaging.

I have learned that students have different learning styles that are grouped in categories. The few top categories mentioned are avoidant, competitive and dependent. The avoidant show no interest in the course and does not communicate with peers or instructor. Competitive students tend to dominate and desire to be better than other students. Dependent students tend to complete only what is required work and seeks direction from instructors.

I have learned the importance of maintains presence and authority when teaching an online course. Some of the ways to do so is to regularly post reminders of assignment deadlines and engage through discussion questions.  To help each student learn more about one another, have each student write a short biography of themselves.

I have learned that is is important for the instructor to be familiar with the school’s CMS (computer management systems) to better help students navigate the courses and help them when troubleshoot any technical difficulties.
