I learned the value of different types of assessments and to use a variety of types while teaching since students may learn differently.

I have learned that outside source of media and hosting are an important/necessary part of an online course. I have also learned about new sites that I did not know before.

Social networking tools should be an important part of online courses to engage students in the course material and also to build a sense of 'community' in the online classroom.

Hi,

The value of the rubric was emphasized. While I do this for assignments from students, I've never thought of using a rubric to have students complete one for peer-peer interaction or for group projects.

Hi,

I think one of the most important things I have learned in this section is to include more details as far as communication, discussion boards, etc in my course syllabus. For example, give more explicit directions on what to do and what not to do when responding to peers in the discussion board.

Hi,

One of the things I have learned in this section is to communicate better with regard to Discussion Board format. Letting students know more specifics about how to post and guidelines for responding to peers is really important.

Hi,

I have learned the value of using various methods of communication. To date, I mostly use email, frequently asked questions, discussion boards and Teams. I have not used personal methods like phone calls. I also see the value of asking for feedback during the course (which I have not done) as well as in the evaluation at the end of the course.

In an online course, it is best to have both synchronous as well as asynchronous activities, lectures, discussions.

In teaching online courses, the content must be organized and sequential. The course site must be attractive and easy to navigate. Students must be able to find information easily. It is also important for students to interact with peers and the instructor. A variety of different types of learning activities help to engage students.

WOrkload strategies are very important for teaching online. These include time management skills to prioritize and accomplsih tasks, information management skills which enable the instructure to have control over the stucture, processing, and delivery of information, and technical support for both instructors and students. A FAQ or FATQ site in the course may be helpful for support.
