It's important to make a good first impression with a new class.  A great way to make a good first impression is to take the time and make an effort to learn people's names and to pronounce them correctly.

Remembering students' names and pronouncing them correctly is very important.  Something as simple as showing up a little early to allow yourself time to make introductions and ensure you're saying names correctly can make a huge impact.

These are all things I've used in the the classroom for a long time.  I think the biggest takeaway for me was, "never assume you're the smartest person in the room just because you're the instructor".  I've been taught things by students many times, and if anything, I think it helps boost their confidence when they get to teach you something.
