Rubrics provide feedback in a manner that helps grades things fairly and evenly across the board.  I have learned the impact they have on learning.  I also learned about the other types of feedback that can be given such as formative, summative, peer evals and other ways to ensure that learning is happening and that the objective is being achieved.

When building a sylabus you must ensure that it is interactive and fluid.  It must provide a detailed overview of the course content.  Also when teaching, you must scaffold your instruction to build upon what the individual already knows and what is needed to move them in the direction you wish them to learn.

Authoring made me think of how to database what I have done for furture courses.  I guess I never thought about it in this manner.  I have done that with hard copies of paperwork, diagrams, and information sheets that I had created in the past, prior to going digital.

There is a difference in delivery, but not much difference when dealing with unruly students, distractions, and communication with students.  It is just done in a different format with online learning.  Like with most situations, keep good records of all communication, counseling, and administrative functions.

I learned what the difference between syncronous and asynchronous discussions are.  I did not know this prior to this class, even though I have taken online college classes.  This made me think back about my classes and dicussions online.  It is true, it allows the asynchronous disccussions to be more thought out when posting and responding.  Synchronous tends to alienate certain introverted students.

I learned that our presence online is not that different from the classroom.  We need to establish relationships, boundaries, and guidlines to maintain and effective culture for learning.  We should set the example and the students should follow.

As an online instructor there are many variables that you need to be aware of.  Such as online classroom rules and guidleines, content, learners abilities as well as their proper participation, how to deal with learners frustrations with connectiviety, computer knowledge, and knowledge of course content.  We as instructors have to balance all of this to ensure that the learner is getting quality instruction and does not get frustrated with any part of the process.  We have to keep them on track as well as stay on track ourselves.
