One of the most important aspects of FERPA is that schools must have written consent before releasing a student’s information to anyone other than authorized school officials. Once a student turns 18 or enters a postsecondary institution, these rights transfer to them. This protects students from unauthorized sharing of their academic or personal information and promotes accountability in how educational institutions store, access, and communicate student records.

It is important for students to understand that their academic record cannot be accessed by anyone without their written consent.

Being available for your students and timely responses to students emails and comments is the best way to support students in an online classroom.

Asynchronous communication with students allows students and instructor to have an open line of communication that allows learning and feedback to be continuous during the online learning process. 

Presenting your professional self to your students is a must so they feel confident that you have the experience and educational background to teach them the class objectives and assist them with learning the course objectives and skills needed to learn and apply the knowledge acquired.

It is pinnacle to have a working knowledge of the subject matter being taught within an online platform.  You must be able to help students comprehend the material and be willing to give them supplemental instruction when needed to enhance their learning.

As an instructor you have to be lifelong learner and be willing to stay abreast of the content and science that is being taught. I will make it a priority to continue my education and actively participate in professional development activities to increase my skills to be an effective instructor.

When presenting course content, you have to be cognizant of the varying learning styles of your students. Also, it is important to be well prepared to present the material so it may require some self-studying and research before teaching it to your students. Lastly, it will be beneficial to your students to incorporate diverse ways to present the material to them during class.

Getting know your students and letting the know something about you is essential.  Students need to feel comfortable with you as instructor that they have a safe space to ask questions and not feel judged if they need further explanation of a concept or skill. As. an instructor I would be supportive of my students and convey to them that I am a conduit for their academic success.

This module gave me a clear overview of the structure and needed tools to successfully teach students. It informed me to be prepared and utilize tools and available resources to be the most effective teacher for my students.  Further planning and preparation are paramount to assist student with learning objectives ang goals.
