I have learned that the definitions of consent and terms regarding sexual assault can vary state to state and that they are not common sense. It is crucial to educate students and staff to understand and recognize the signs of sexual predators and that the behaviors of victims may seem to be counter intuitive for cooperation and the willingness to volunteer information. This is due to the trauma of the situation and relationship between the victim and the perpetrators.

This module as well as my facilities policies on Title IX and VAWA have brought to my awareness the federally mandated nature of reporting these types of complaints. I will be more aware and make my students aware of the need to report information that they receive about sexual harassment and crimes of a sexual nature that are federally prohibited.

The Title IX coordinator has the job of being available for the report of any activity that could be construed as sexual harassment in any form. The students and staff are obligated to do annual competency training to understand the role and the role of being a responsible person that anyone on campus can feel safe speaking to. The responsible person has an obligation to report and one to make the student aware of before they divulge confidential information to them. The reporter and the victim have the right to confidentiality and privacy regarding the incident, but also the right… >>>

I have learned that motivation is critical for student success and retention in the career program. I understand that student motivation will wax and wane throughout the curriculum. I need to create an environment of empathy and understanding so that students will trust me to teach them, and to understand that they have lives outside of school. I will endeavor to make all the student's feel that their opinions and ideas are valid and welcome to be shared with the class. I have to be able to recognize what motivates each student so that I will be able to use… >>>

I learned that to engage the students I must keep myself motivated and excited about the material. It is normal for a slump in motivation and energy around mid term. I learned some methods to recognize this and try to combat it with REFOCUS methods to help me realize all the progress that has been made and help keep the students spirits up by using surprising stories, and games to liven up the classroom.

This module talks about reading the emotional needs of the students and trying to teach to the moment by using humor or creating excitement about the material to help lighten the mood. The student's need to be given positive feedback about all the small benchmarks that are met so that they will stay motivated. I need to get excited about the subject for the students to feel excited about it.

I have learned that each student is different in their perceptions of education, needs, and abilities. As an instructor I need to be able to connect with each of them in order to know what kind of support they will require to help them be prepared and motivated for the course of study. Understanding the kind of support the student's need will help them to be successful and anticipate what the degree program and the professional field will expect of them.

An instructor needs to keep the delivery of instructional content interesting and relevant. Students that are interested and engaged will retain more information. The student's also need to learn something and then apply it right away to help them learn the skills to become experts in practice.

I need to go over the basic purpose of the class and the objectives to be covered. I also need to cover the syllabus and expectations during the course. It is important to allow time for the students to ask questions about the course content and assessment practices.

It is important to understand and for the student's to understand the purpose of the class and what the goals are for their success. Organization and preparation are crucial for a teacher to be efficient and effective in teaching the core competencies for the course. The student and the teacher can be relaxed and confident if everyone understands what is expected of them.
