About me

Hello!  My name is Christina and I am an RN with 31 years experience in Obstetrics and Maternal/Newborn Nursing.  I have taught classes for prepared childbirth, AWHONN fetal monitoring, and bereavement for families with newborn loss.  This is my first time teaching at a collegial institution.

Activity

I love having the ability and even the encouragement to be fun and creative with my classes!  Funny personal stories related to what you've experienced in the field can be great learning opportunities that don't even feel like learning!

I like the reinforcement of how to handle difficult situations with students - to remain calm, not let the situation escalate, not allow the student to turn class into a personal grip session.

It is interesting to note how the different acts and amendments affect one another in terms of release of information.

I appreciate that the student can add a note to their record if an issue they have is not resolved to their satisfaction.

I like knowing the specifics of how a student can request their information be released for the purpose of licenses given to employers and such.

Knowing what is considered confidential information is so important.  I will be sure to safeguard student information.

Guide students while they are doing demonstrations and be sure to bring them all together at the end of a demonstration to remind them of what they have learned and how they are progressing

Learning students by name is so important - I love the idea of "tents" on their desk that show their names as a way of learning who they are while class progresses

I love the thought of coming in early to greet the students and understand where they are in the learning process.

I love the concept of being human with your students - still professional, but also being able to show your personality and use your unique perspective to bring ideas to the classroom in your own way.
