Renita, Previewing content is a great way for students to learn, and the pretest is a great way to provide a version of previewing. Redoing the same exam at the end of the course should also offer encouragement to students, as you say, to show really, how far they've come. Barry Westling
Renita, These are great examples and go to show that creativity in the use of senses can be both memorable and enjoyable in the learning process. Barry Westling
Robbi, I think students appreciate when their instructor takes time to give advice, share information, and generally convey that they want to help the student be successful. Barry Westling
Elizabeth, If it works for you and it's done fairly for all students, there should be no problem. Barry Westling
Elizabeth, Yes, it's very helpful to get a sense about what level of prior learning our students have achieved. Barry Westling
Rich, Older instructors are finding they need to adapt to the newer electronic classroom that is becoming an ever present challenge. Keeping up with the changing times keeps instructors aligned both with their students and the changing instructional delivery environment. Barry Westling
Verna, I think being kind and natural goes a long way to creating a relaxing learning environment for my students. Barry Westling
Rich, Yes, most of us are instructors in vocational or career specific courses. We have a duty to emulate and demonstrate what we expect of the students. Barry Westling
Courtney, Grading methods, such as electronic versions are becoming more popular and useful. The grading system (or process) itself should be clearly undersatndable by all students. In addition, it should be fair to all, comprehensive and balanced, and most important, designed to accurately measure learning. Barry Westling
Randy, Adult learners want (and deserve) to know their status in class. Especially in institutions where the student is paying a hefty price for their education, it is only natural the instructor should participate in conveying student status. This is sound educational practice and appropriate customer service. Barry Westling
