Myrna, Being ready to do a change up if needed is not so rare and I think being over prepared with applicable course material is way better than coming up short with time left in class. Barry Westling
Jessica , More senses, more retention of information. Instructors can be very creative and achieve much if we think from the perspective of the student. Barry Westling
Dorian, Great. If we did this successfully for all students, we'd have accomplished a lot! Barry Westling
Michael, I don't think anyone really expects perfection. I think being natural, genuine and sincere goes a long ways to building trust and respect with my students. Barry Westling
Dorian, Right, and our students will notice when their instructor is not fully ready to facilitate a class. Barry Westling
Dorian, Field trips and guest speakers add a dimension not available by most other resources, and students are usually quite appreciative of the change in pace these activities provide. Barry Westling
Denise, Perfect. Our "connection" can really make a difference. Besides advice and suggestions, we can also offer support and encouragement. This alone could make the difference between a student really trying or feel like giving up. Of course, we want to see the former. Barry Westling
Tawana, Yes, the information we share is vital to students knowing where more study may be needed and also gives the instructor an opportunity to make more of a personal connection with the student. This time can be invaluable and contribute to the success of the student. Barry Westling

To offer bonus points beyond the standard established at the beginning of the course is is not fair to students who completed all assignments on time, and even if all students are awarded extra points, then there is grade inflation. My emphasis is student learning. Grades and points are secondary aspects to that primary goal. But each instructor and institution has to decide what works best for them. Barry… >>>

Vallorie , Great.Sometimes pretesting can be a form of previewing content, which is beneficial in and of itself. It can also show students how to prepare for upcoming topics, perhaps by reading ahead or personalized studying. Barry Westling
