Gregg, Depending on the topic, other senses can be introduced that create lasting memorries, and that creates improved retention of information. We relay so much on what we see, hear, or feel, but other senses can be cultivated in the classroom or lab to enhance learning. A little creative thought can usually devise several alternative exercises that can be fun, instructional, and memorable. Barry Westling
Larry, Another way of sayiong this is relating to the students where they are, or student centered learning, which is great way to approach instructional class sessions. Barry Westling
Charles, More variety adds interest and perhaps more meaningful class seeions. Barry Westling
Larry, Teaching journals can reveal a lot about ourselves, especially through the perspective of an extended time period (several moths or years.). Improvement is best made when the instructor sees for themselves what needs to be done (vs someone telling them to do this or that). Barry Westling
Randy, Planning for all sorts of unplanned events just makes good sense. I find my organized classes run smoother, and I'm more enthusiastic and ready for these sessions. I also like to be available for my students, and having open time available assists me with this opprtunity to personnaly connect with my students. Barry Westling
Charles, Interesting comment, and it's true that the students trust and respect for their instructor is enhanced (or diminished) based the degree of preparation and organization of the instructor. Barry Westling
Joseph, Great! When continusouly checking for understanding, we assure that we don't go too far into the lesson before verifying students are aligned with our tempo and delivery of information. Barry Westling
Joseph, Great example. I've done sensory deprivation activities too, (to simulate imparierd patients), and it's a really mind expanding experience. We rely on our auditory, visual and touch senses so much, getting students awrae of other senosry stimulation is difinetly worth the practical application. Barry Westling
Cynthia, I'm with you, valuing the existing grading system that accounts for required course assignments. Barry Westling
Joseph, Great. When students see their instructor is serious about the class instruction, that does a lot to guarantee students will be mo0re attentive and interested in learning. Barry Westling
