About me

Activity

Funmilola, Right. An organized plan precedes delivery and presentation to the class. Students grow to expect organization and order in the classroom. Barry Westling
John , I agree. I think part of being prepared does allow for irregularities in planned activies to occur and I am able to take them in stride. We talk about in the course as back-up plans, which is big part of being prepared. Barry Westling
Megan, This is a great sentiment! With perceived purpose, most (sincere) students will be challenged to do what they need to be successful. Barry Westling
Rebecca, It really is critical for students to know their status. It's as important as providing the content in the sense that like a journey, without feedback the student has way of knowing how close to their destination they've come. Barry Westling
Megan, I'm all for challenging students with assignments if they want to go the extra mile for learning. But I would not not do it for points that count significantly to a grade. I've had students not do required assignments but expect extra credit to make up the missed points. Can't go there. Barry Westling
Dayton, You and many other instructors and institutions would be in agreement. Barry Westling
Dayton, I use the course objectives, then examine which resources I have available, then look at my lecture notes. From there, I can begin to construct and select what I need to make the course excel. Barry Westling
Israel, Right. A change, if even just asking questions, breaks the downward funk and brings an upbeat presence to the classroom. Barry Westling
Carl, Actually, what you are doing is applying student centered learning, which is an effective way to instruct students. Barry Westling
Dayton, Right. PPT can be overused and after a time can actually become a distraction. Every tool has a specific purpose and use. More variety with delivery and presentation will assist with retention. Barry Westling
