About me

Activity

Joyce, Sounds good and sound. Reviews are meant to be more of a reminder than a teaching. Those who need more work can always prep by geeting more help apart from the regular class. Reviewing also shares insight into what the instructor finds more important to study for. Barry Westling
Jan, I look it like "what are course objectives indicating I need to cover". That's what I primarily focus on and do my best to assure I get that material covered first. All subsequent information is secondary, supplementary, and can be presented more quickly if needed, or by alternate assignment. Barry Westling
Jackie, Terrific. I am very animated and sounds, expressions, unusual over-the-top expressions are effective ways to capture attention, keep the class livey and energetic, and deliver my material with enthusiasm. This makes for memorable, meaningful class sessions. Barry Westling
Joyce, Good for you. Great personality with poor organizational and planning skills will still flop. It takes time, effort, thinking and planning for daily classes to come across effectively. The best combination is an instructor who can relate to their students, connect with them, using a well thought plan for daily lessons. Barry Westling
Sean, Right. If we are training workers, I believe they need to leave us with knowledge, skills, applications, soft skills, and critical thing abilities. With these they should be ready to approach just about any work or personal life situation. Barry Westling
Ron, Yes, reflection and perspective. That's what I get from reviewing past journal notes. For me it shows growth and maturity as a teacher. Barry Westling
Barbara, Yes, and when the instructor is prepared, classes run smoother, students are at ease, and overall effectiveness is improved. Barry Westling
Joyce, You may have a point about student expectations. But I also think adult learners in any setting do well when they now the instructions, what are the expectations, and receive a personalized connection with their instructor. That is at the foundation of student centered. Barry Westling
Carmella, For my health and medical classes, I feel there is certain amount of material and knolwedge that has to be learned. Students who have done poorly with some of the material to the degree that EC would benefit them have probably missed too much essential information. EC could only artifically inflate their grade, and in some cases produce poorly trained, even potentially unsafe workers. For me, I just choose not to award EC. Each has to decide what works best for them and their students. Barry Westling
Cynthia, When I look at school through the lens of my students eyes, a short reset break every hour seems very reasonable. It's been said "your mind can only take in how long your seat can endure". Probably some truth to that. Barry Westling
