V., Respect, acceptance, and tolerance are all modeled and promoted in the class activities. You have a fantastic work ethic with these words. Your students will learn so much because you have made such an open learning environment. Arlene Muller
Erin , Wow, I like your "What if ..." game because it seems to really allow your students to participate. Students learn when they are participating and you have made learning fun. Great job! Arlene Muller
Van, The success at your school seems to stem from the support that you receive from your administration. It seems like everyone is on the same page. Listing all the expectations up front also seems to work for you. Congratulations! Arlene Muller

Pierre, I like that you understand how to relate to your students because of your background. However, I think you have realized that ELL students need the highest level of communication. I agree with you that you need to "pay close attention or by staying focused when interacting" with your students. Arlene Muller

Ryan, Wonderful focus to allow everyone to learn from your ELL student. One activity is to have each student in the class research and present a certain aspect of the cultural background. This would save you time and the students would have fun sharing their new knowledge about the ELL student. Arlene Muller

Rasiel, Well, Rasiel you are on the right track. Teaching occurs when the students are talking instead of the teacher. Adding background information based on student culture always improves learning. Arlene Muller

I agree there are many more tools availabe to the new graduate, however, I feel the challenge is to keep the new employment position.  Aa a former Campus Director and Director of Education I was always diven by the Retention Rate. Now I feel that there is another line that determines the success of current graduates.   The students today need to look Beyond the Finish Line of Graduation and see the finish line as passing the 3 month probabtion period to earn benfits. New regulations will require career schools to move the finish line.

"A smile, genuine concern, and an openness to conversation can go a long way to breaking down any barriers."  Yes, I agree with James.  As instructors we need to show our true passion and concern, that we want our students to reach their goals. The students need to know that is our focus.

David, Yes David, you state it so well in summary of your last words, "express themselves without fear of judgment or discrimination." Learning will always occur when students feel it is safe to learn despite making mistakes. Arlene Muller
