About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Susie, We have to try to converse with silent students as much as possible. I've noticed, the more comfortable they are around you, the more they tend to open up. Patricia
Hi Misty, As educators we should be fair. Students expect and want us to be fair. Consistency is key. Patricia
Hi Kelly, When students don't respect you as an instructor you have very little control. Image is everything. Patricia
Hi Rhonda, Preparation is key! Students can tell immediately when you are not prepared. You lose credibility going into the classroom unprepared. Patricia
Hi Stephanie, Yes, students do tend to get it whenever they see examples. The light bulb comes on. Students appreciate being shown examples. Patricia
Hi Marc, Awesome response! I can tell you have a positive instructor image. I know your students look up to you. Patricia
Hi Ana, At times, it is necessary to take such action. We have to do whatever needs to be done to maintain an environment that is conducive to learning. Patricia
Hi Daniel, We all learn in different ways. I agree it is important to learn as much about the student as possible to determine how they best learn. We are here for the students, and we should do everything possible to help the student become successful. Patricia
Hi Maggie, You are on target! The key is to make some type of connection to show relevancy. The connection can be to the real word, personal, career, etc. Patricia
Hi Daniel, Your students are lucky to have you explain things to them in their terms so that they understand what is being asked. I know some instructors that will not answer any questions from students during test time. I will clarify things for my students during test time so that they better understand what is being asked. Patricia
