About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Laurie, Some students are really filled with questions! The more they ask, and we respond favorably they really do become excited. Patricia
Hi Katina, How smart of you! What a super way to grab your students attention and to demonstrate course relevancy. "HIRING" alone is motivating, and it is even more motivating when it is being done in one's chosen field of study. Patricia
Hi John, You have to sell students on the benefit of taking the class as to how it will pertain to their chosen field of study. This needs to be addressed on Day 1. At my institution, we have planned PowerPoint for each course as to how it will benefit every major. Patricia
Hi Ben, Great points! The students also can feed off of the engergy created by the teacher. Excitement starts from the top, the instructor. Patricia
Hi Jeffrey, Students love to be told stories. Stories appear to be very motivating to students. Stories are a great way to get students interested and involved. Patricia
Hi Maggie, Absolutely! It is very important to get to know your students. You should make it a personal goal to get to know each student. You can better assist, if you know the student. Patricia
Hi Bonnie, Professionalism does bring about respect. Continue to lead by example. Students want and need role models. Patricia
Hi Daniel, It is always good to share examples with students and give them options. Things become a lot clearer when choices are presented. Students feel as though they have some liberty when they can choose. Patricia
Hi Dianne, Smart strategy! Students like to be regarded as leaders. Let them have a leadership role every chance you get. Patricia
Hi John, I like the various strategies you utilize to show course relevancy. Variety is good. I am sure your keep your students interest. Patricia
