About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Marilyn, I understand what you are saying, and it is a great learning tool, but whenver assignments/projects are given most of the time the students do not have a clue as to what needs to be done. I like to show examples so that students can get an idea as to what is expected of them. I want to make the picture as clear as possible. Patricia

Hi Sue, You can also make a sacrificial lamb out of one of the students the next time they become disruptive, by sending them home for the day. I know the student will miss instructional time, but it is not fair to those who really and truly want to learn to be distracted. Patricia

Avoiding common instructor mistakes

Hi Catherine, People in general do not like it when plans have to be changed. If there are benefits to the plans being changed, certainly address how they would benefit from the changes. Students want to know what's in it for them. Patricia
