About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Jason, A well informed student is also a happy and motivated student. We should keep our students in the know. Patricia
Hi James, No one likes being blind sided. Whenever you know what's going on and what's expected of you, you tend to want to do and are excited about doing it. Patricia
Hi Darren, Confidence is a must. Students can tell when you lack confidence. Whenever the instructor does not have confidence, the student begins to question the instructor's knowledge base, preparation, organization, etc. Patricia
Hi Theresa, Students tend to become really excited, if they have somewhat of an idea as to what to expect before coming to class. There is a lot of positive buzz about my Professional Development class, and most students can not wait to take it. There can also be a flip side to buzz as well. Patricia
Hi Marilyn, Showing favoritism is definitely a no no. You should treat every student the same. No student is any more important than another student. It is awful when an instructor has the reputation as showing favoritism. I do not tolerate favoritism shown by instructors at my institution. Patricai
Hi Noma, I solely agree. Instructors really have to watch getting too close to students. Instructors should give the students the impression that the relationship is nothing more than professional. Patricia
Hi Martha, I fully understand how walking around can cause nervousness. I tend to change positions as my students are testing. I stand in the front, back, and sides. My students know my normal montoring practices during a test. Patricia
Hi Franz, Yes, angry students must be dealt with quickly and swiftly. I have found that listening works really well whenever a student is angry. Most of the time, the angry student simply wants to vent and be heard. As educators, we must be effective listeners. Patricia
Hi Ron, It sounds like you are really describing yourself. These are great characteristics to have as an educator. I am sure your students enjoy having you as a positive role model. Patricia
Hi Franz, It is great how you have such an upbeat and positive attitude upon the initial meeting. I especially like how you motivate your students from Day 1. What a super way to start the class! Patricia
