About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi John, Information can certainly be misconstrued. As a good faculty/staff we must do our role to set the record straight whenever we hear students talking inaccurately. Patricia
Hi Sandy, Yes, you can not let things fester any more than it has with an angry student. The sooner, the better, in this case. Patricia
Hi Skip, I certainly understand the points you have made as it applies to this field of study. You do not want to do anything to decrease the student's creativity. It sounds like how you are handling things are working just fine...continue to do as such. Patricia
Hi Lou, I really like how you have made this academic grade scale applicable to a work performance scale. This is a super analogy, and students will easily understand the point made here. Patricia
Hi Lucy, It really makes it nice whenever students are familiar with the topic. Students really can see the revelance when they have been exposed. Patricia
Hi Michelle, Being fair is a must. The minute students find out that the instructor is unfair, the complaints really surface. Stick to your words and treat all students the same. Patricia
Hi Lou, As long as students know how a particular course will help them, they are definitely more eager to learn it. It is important for adult learners to understand the benefit of anything. Patricia
Hi Elizabeth, We are who we are! To be a center stager is certainly not a bad thing. As educators, most of the time we are definitely the center of attention. It is the nature of the profession. Patricia
Hi Michelle, There is really a lot covered under the umbrella of preparation. Knowing content material, available lesson plans, copies, room setup all of these things include preparation. You certainly made some valid points in your response. Patricia
Hi Pandora, We really do learn a lot from our students. This student told you something, and it acted as a wake up call. We need to at times really take heed to what our students are saying, as you have done. Patricia
