About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Terry, It does depend on the severity of the anger as to where it is better handled. I just like to handle angry students privately behind closed doors. I let them vent fully before saying anything, and normally the problem resolves itself, just by me listening. Patricia

Hi Fortuna, Students automatically enjoy humor as long as it is not too much of it. I have seen/heard some of those humorous examples of how miscommunication can lead to confusion. Students become real interested in hearing about the work world. Patricia

Maintaining a professional image

Hi Robyn, Instructors should make it a point to have professional dress. The instructor's dress should be at a level higher than the students. Anyone should walk into the building and should be able to quickly distinguish between the instructor and the student, based on dress. We need to look the part! Patricia

Hi Kelley, Yes! It is important for everyone to be on the same page. The support system of the institution should be very strong. If a person does not support the system, then that person is employed at the wrong place. Unity is key! Patricia
