About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Patricia, Students love having guest speakers. It is important for students to hear from other professionals other than their instructors. Guest speakers are very motivating for our students. Patricia
Hi LaTonya, Students like being able to have a visual so that they know exactly what is required of them. The assignment appears to be clearer by being shown an example. Patricia
Hi Eula, I like the idea of securing a signature from your students. Things really seem important to students if they have to sign it. It comes across as being real serious. Patricia
Hi Margaret, Yes, the angry student does not need to be in the midst of others. It is better to deal with angry students behind closed doors, and simply let the angry student talk/vent. Generally, the talking calms the angry student, and the problem is resolved. At times, you may have to use other tactics to calm the student. Patricia
Hi Crystal, Students need good management. It sounds like you do a fine job managing your students. It also appears that you are very organized. I like how you give your students the agenda. Students appreciate knowing what is planned and what is a head of them. I sometimes even let my students know the agenda for the week. Patricia
Hi Patti, Yes it does. It can also be great reinforcement based on what was discussed by the instructor. Students really enjoy guest speakers. Guest speakers can validate theory heard in the classroom. Patricia
Hi Michael, Why do you feel it is important to give the inattentive student question 2? Patricia
Hi Warren, Nicely handled! This student should have been dealt with by administrators as well. Remember, never put yourself in danger. Patricia
Hi John Pal, Great idea to get everyone involved? What do you do if a student does not do an adequate job of teaching/explaining the section? Patricia
Hi Tim, Students need to and want to know that we care about their succes. As educators, it is crucial to get to know your students. I make it a point daily to say something to each of my student. It makes students feel important when you give them some attention. Patricia
