About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Natalie, I agree! I've noticed that even though a student is shy; the shy student is more apt to open up in a pleasant controlled environment. Shy students are easily intimidated, and if they are comfortable they will shine. Patricia

Hi Andrea, I like the strictness of your honesty policy. You're right, students have forced policies to be real rigid. At my institution, the first offense of cheating at the minimum is an "F" in the course. You have to let students know that dishonesty will not be tolerated. Patricia

Maintaining a professional image

Hi Erika, We implemented a professional dress code for students at my institution. If a student violates the code, the student is sent home for the day, which is an absence. Instructors also have a dress code, therefore we lead by example. In Pressional Development class students must dress every Thursday as if they are going to an interview. At my institution, we also share with our students professional dress code policies from local employers. We have a professional from the community to speak about professional dress at an assembly. Hi Marsa, Absolutely! It is hard not to get involved when playing games. It is certainly a great way to get silent students involved. I like making my silent students the captains or score keeper. I give my silent students some type of lead position so that they are even more involved. Patricia
