About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Richard, Great variety to use to engage students. Variation is important in education. Students need variation so that they do not become bored. Patricia
Hi Robert, Students take you more seriously whenever distance is maintained. The line has to be drawn so that students know where their boundaries are. Patricia
Hi Faith, School is where the learning process begins. Showing examples is an excellent way to help students understand various concepts. Students appreciate whenever examples are shared. Patricia
Hi Richard, Great idea about putting your background in writing as well! Students like to have information to refer to. Dress has a lot to do with the way you are perceived by students and others. Instructors should look the part. Patricia
Hi Robert, Preparation is key! Students need us to be prepared so that we can present effectively and share our knowledge fruitfully. Patricia
Hi Ernest, Yes they will. We are most of our students role model. We must always be levels higher than our students in every way. Patricia
Hi Charles, Do not allow your students to talk after finishing their test. Give a speil to the class and let them know once they are done with their test, they are not allowed to talk, if they talk let them know what you will do, and then you need to do it. Once you make an example out of someone, I gaurantee you the talking will stop. You have to let your students know that you mean business. Patricia
Hi Thomas, Nice response. Simply, do not let students cross the line. Problems flare whenever students are allowed to cross the line. Treat all students the same. Patricia
Hi John, I call on all of my students, including the silent ones, and the silent ones play right along. I do not treat the silent students any different, and before you know it they are feeling comfortable and fitting right in. Patricia
Hi Donald, What a great way to show how practical this knowledge was by being able to assist the urologist. Students love and need to hear about practical experience so that they become really excited. Patricia
