About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Marshall, Plans are not etched in stone, sometimes you have to alter them accordingly. When the plan does not work don't let it cause you to sweat, simply make a smooth transition as to not to alarm the students. Patricia
Hi Eileen, Students enjoy hearing professional stories from the instructor. Anytime the opportunity presents itself to share a professional experience, the instructor should do so. Patricia
Hi Deborah, I always tell my instructors being prepared, organized, professional, and knowledgeable help reduce anxiety. Patricia
Hi Ranee, I like your down-to-earthness. I feel the same way. We are truly no better than our students, we should never make them feel like we are better than them. Students respect you more and like you when you do not think you are better than they are. We are all people, we all have just chosen to go down different paths in life. Patricia
Hi George, I've found that courses make sense to a particular student, but they don't understand how the course will benefit them, therefore I tell them the purpose of the course, and how they can benefit from the course personally and/or professionally. Patricia
Hi Susan, Students love to and need to hear about our experiences as they apply to their field of study. Patricia
Hi Laura, Yes, and they also need to know that the work is very important for their success in the course. Patricia
Hi Tonetia, Yes, and also let them know that they need to take responsibility for their own actions. Patricia
Hi Lisa, Eye-to-eye contact is very important, but how does that get them excited about the course content? Patricia
Hi Laura, There are people who are just like you, they dislike confrontation. I have learned that in education whether you like it or not, it has to be done, and the sooner the better for everyone. Patricia
