About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Judi, I can see how this is very relaxing! Are you allowed to have drinks in your classroom? At my institution no drinks are allowed in the classroom. Patricia
Hi Susan, The first day is the perfect time to share course requirements. Students are expecting this on the very first day. Patricia
Hi Daniel, Everyone wants to be liked, but the focus is to be respected and share your knowledge with your students. Teaching is not a popularity contest. Patricia
Hi Ruth, You're right, it is a small world. You never know who you will run into. Patricia
Hi Danni, One way to get volunteers is to have a participation grade included on your syllabus. Patricia
Hi Mike, It is good for students to know that yes we are humans too. Once they see that we are humans as well, the students tend to open up more. Patricia

Hi Barbara, Showing examples of work is certainly a great conversation piece for students. It also provides encouragement as well as confidence. Patricia
