About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Arlene, Each student will have a turn. This is certainly a great way to keep students attentive. I randomly call on each student, I do not do any particular order. Patricia
Hi Lynn, I like your outlook about teaching. I like the enthusiasm you have for the profession as well. We should never slight our students because we are having a bad day. Our students deserve our best at all times. Patricia
Hi Sharon, How do your students feel about role playing? I love the excitement and creativity of role playing as well. Typically, I see a lot of excitement and creativity from students whenever they role play. Role playing is a great teaching method and students normally have fun with it. Patricia
Hi Rufino, How do you go about maintaining a professionalism? I lead by example so that students can see exactly what professionalism is all about. Patricia
Hi Angel, If you have room, having your students sit in every other seat is a great idea. Patricia
Hi Kerry, This is the one part of my job that I love as an instructor. I absolutely love communicating/interacting with the students. My students have taught me a lot over the 21 years I have been teaching, not about academics, but about life in general...they know how to survive. Patricia
Hi Martha, You are right! Students can tell quickly when you are unprepared. Being unprepared has made many instructors lose their credibility. Once your credibility as an instructor is tarnished, it is hard to regain it. Patricia
Hi Jessica, Absolutely! Preparation is key! I especially like how you have a Plan B as well. Always have more than you think you need because sometimes you need more. Patricia
Hi Lisa, These are tendencies that really minimize cheating. I even have my students to remove their water bottles. Patricia
Hi Michael, Guest speakers can truly make a difference, and you are a witness to this. This can be such a motivating story for you to share with your students. One person can sometimes make all the difference in the world. Patricia
