About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Linn, Students love hearing one's practical experiences as they pertain to the subject matter. Great way to generate excitement. Patricia
Hi Debra, What do you tend to do to capture student attention? I stand and teach to project as much energy as possible. Patricia
Hi Tara, Silent students tend to do very well in a smaller setting. I make it a point to try to establish a rapport with these students so that they are comfortable with me to encourage class participation. Patricia
Hi Linda, Students need us to be professional as well. We are some of our students only role model. Patricia
Hi Christopher, Perception is everything. Students look up to us in more ways than one. We must be positive role models. Patricia
Hi Warren, Listening is key! The better the student/teacher rapport is, the situation can be handled on a smoother basis. Patricia
Hi Jaceita, Have you tried using simulations, technolgy, guest speakers, and/or field trips? Patricia
Hi Wanda, I too like to give these students leadership roles, and if failure occurs, I start with the leader to see how they handle things so far as shifting blame. If blame is shifted, we go through the entire scenario so that they can understand who is truly at fault. Patricia
Hi Helen, Amen! We must lead by example, and certainly practice what we preach! Patricia
Hi Ann, I can tell you have your students best interest at heart. I too like to give my students a thorough review before the test. I even utilize study guides. My students really appreciate how well I prepare them for tests, if anyone fails a test, they take full blame. Patricia
