About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi David, You are right, this is a great way to ease apprehension. Students need to be put at ease as much as possible. School can be very stressful/frightful to some students. Patricia
Hi Rhonda, Absolutley, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Students should made to be felt that they can ask any question they would like to. Patricia
Hi Tim, I like your take on this! I teach in a very simplistic way. I assume my students do not know anything so that I make a great attempt to reach every student. Patricia
Hi Brenda, It sounds like you do a fantastic job to ensure clarity of course content. Students should fully understand what is required of them based on the methods you utilize. Patricia
Hi Abby, As long as students fully understand how the course content is applicable to the real world or their career, they gain a great sense of excitement. Patricia
Hi Robert, I concur! Let's not motivate by making students feel inferior, let's motivate by making students feel superior. Patricia
Hi Christine, Where do you count these points, in which percentage category? I have a participation category that I deduct 5 points for each infraction and the category is worth 5% of their grade. I have seen this percentage area increase some students grades, and on the other hand I have seen it decrease some students grades. The repercussion has to be challenging enough so that it discourages inappropriate behavior. Patricia
Hi Robert, Super idea! I like how you spark their interest and try to accomodate them based on their expectations as well. Patricia
Hi Dana, Great combination is to have fun while learning. Jeopardy has really proven to be an excellent learning tool, and it is so much fun as well. Students really get into this game. Patricia
Hi Donna, I like to have due dates for small segments of the project in order to compelete the overall project timely. Patricia
