About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Daniel, I have experienced students pushing for special treatment regardless. Patricia

Do you consider yourself to be an instructor that is respected, an instructor that is liked, or both?  I consider myself to be an instructor that is well respected and well liked.  First and foremost, I would much rather be respected by students than liked by them because I am not in the profession to win a popularity contest.  I am in the profession to educate so that I can help change lives for the better.  It is great when both exist, but the more important of the two is RESPECT.

Hi John, You are right! Students have to be met with privately to discuss this matter. The intructor has to have a great sense of understanding. Patricia
Hi Richard, Wow! I like your tests format. You have a system in place that will automatically determine if a student is cheating. I simply tell my students they are being watched. Patricia
Hi Linda, Preparation plays a vital role in teaching! I like to prepare a week in advanced for all of my classes. The more prepared you are, the more confidence you will have. Patricia
Hi Richard, What a great icebreaker. This is a sure way to ease the tension and pressure students suffer from on Day 1. Patricia
Hi Leslie, They sure do enjoy real world experiences outside of the classoom. Students want to know how things are like in the real world. Patricia
Hi Jennifer, It also provides a greater level of clarity. Patricia
Hi Peggy, Yes, it will work online as well. It is a super icebreaker that is enjoyed by all. Patricia
Hi Kenneth, Super idea! I make it a point to call on every student daily to keep their attention, most of the time I call on students more than once during the period. Patricia
