About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hello Stephanie, Students want to hear more than just do this assignment. Every assignment should have a purpose! When students see that they can benefit, they are more likely to do the assignment. Patricia
Hi Pereze, Preparation is key! I alwasys prepare a week in advanced. Patricia
Hi Nancy, I can tell you are there for your students. You have several techniques in place so that your students do not have a reason to complain. What a great way to be proactive. Patricia
Hi Michael, Most people love fame! This is a good way to try to reel silent students in. Patricia
Hi Deborah, I have realized the marketability that is involved when a student is bilingual. Students who are fluent in both Spanish and English have several advantages when trying to find employment. Patricia
Hi Tina, Calendars work beautifully! I use this tactic, but I have the students print their own calendar from Word and fill in the dates. Students need to take some responsibility here. Patricia
Hi Rebekah, Awesome on your part! You are right the answer is not always kicking students out. We as educators need to follow your lead as to how to come up with ways to make a student better. Outstanding! It is also very big of you to evaluate yourself in the situation. Patricia
Hi John, You are right! They have to go for it and be confident. We cannot go to work with them. They must learn how to perform on their own. Patricia
Hi Wray, Wow, this is large for an algebra class. Perhaps the group method will help things a bit here. I would create 7 groups with 5 people in each group. Put a strong academic person in each group and make a captain for each group to make sure things flow smoothly, most importantly students are understanding. The next time this happens go to personnel for an assistant. Patricia
Hi Kelly, Wow! Technology can destroy academics, if we sit back and allow it. We as instructors must monitor things very closely in the classroom. Electronic devices should be put away when testing. Patricia
